Retail industry tax professionals and staff can't just rely on an understanding of the basics of state and local sales and use tax compliance.
The trickiest compliance challenges arise from the basics, so tax staff must understand the proper treatment for coupons, rebates, incentives and the challenges associated with sales tax holidays. Tax pros then need to combine their retail-specific knowledge with a grasp of the differences between the Quill physical presence standard and other types of attribution nexus and the ability to navigate state sales tax variations for online sales for multi-state businesses.
Proficient tax professionals must also understand the impact of the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement, the potential impact of the Marketplace Fairness Act, and key variations in major states sales tax structures. Only then, armed with this broad-based background, tax staff will be prepared to efficiently and accurately comply with state sales tax requirements.
This webinar will provide suggestions for fine-tuning your company's sales and use tax compliance and planning in response to the latest developments affecting retailers with multi-state presence, physical or online.
